I'd recommend you buy the Suzuki factory manual for your Savage, lots of info and maybe better than Clymer for electrics etc. Sorry I don't have any exact suggestions, except to take a multimeter and start checking the wire harnesses/connections. I've heard that Savage's electrics can "drown" easily when ridden in rain, especially the front connectors along side the "backbone" frame member under the tank.
